I have often seen from advertisements that a knowledge of ColdFusion is needed for a particular job but never given much thought about it until now. What common applications use ColdFusion?

Codfusion is also a web scripting language like your PHP. Only that Coldfusion is not as popular as your PHP. It is generally used in creating dynamic and database websites. Coldfusion is at the level of Microsoft .NET and Java Enttreprise Edition as a tool for business application development. This is a product of Macromedia.

Yeah ColdFusion was created by Macromedia (who is now owned by Adobe Inc). I tried to use ColdFusion once but I realised that it wasn't intended for the type of website that I was building. Before you use it you should do some digging to see if your website should use it.

Do you really think that CF is at the level of .NET? I don't find it nearly so extensible or programmable. Now don't get me wrong, I am no CFM hater, it is great for simple CRUD operations on data, and better at that than .NET, but you hit the wall pretty quickly when you want to do something fancy. At that point you have to drop back 10 and punt to external libraries.

Honestly, I think CF is a dying product. No where near the level of .net

Yea I don't find it really attractive.

Myspace is built on ColdFusion though, probably explains why it's so slow
